Our second full day in Rome was completely free of tours or other obligations (a rarity on this action-packed trip). Some adventurous members of the group decided 70 degrees was just too warm for thin Minnesota blood to endure the city; they took the Metro for a long ride to the sea. Other than being surprised by a sudden downpour, they reported a good time. Some went to the coliseum, where they got to experience one of the longest queues on our journey (and that's saying something!) But for many of us, the joy and eeriness of simply walking around amidst the over-sized ruins was the best experience of all.
