THE BENEDICTINE CEMETERY IN SALZBURG

It's difficult to capture in photos how strangely beautiful this cemetery is. It sits right next to the rock of the mountainside, and above it is some sort of structure actually carved into the stone. The gated mausoleums were also featured in "The Sound of Music" when the Von Trapp family was hiding from the Nazis. Our guide admitted to us, however, that the graveyard had to be recreated off-site because the Benedictine monks would not allow them to film here.
